Miami(3-0,2-0) ripped out to a 7-0 lead on their first possession at 7:20 of the opening quarter. Quarterback Darian Mensah tossed a nine-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Joshua Moore in the middle of the end zone.
Wake Forest(2-1, 0-1) tied it up 7-7 with 1:22 to go in the first. Wide receiver Kamrean Johnson caught a 10-yard touchdown pass in the back right corner of the end zone from quarterback Gio Lopez.
In the second quarter, the Canes reclaimed the lead 14-7 at the 13:07 mark. Mensah connected a 21-yard pass to wide receiver Elija Lofton on the left side.
The Hurricanes increased their lead to 21-7 with 8:17 remaining in the second. Running back Mark Fletcher Jr. busted up the middle from one yard away.
It became 24-7 for Miami with no time left in the first half. Jake Weinberg kicked a 28-yard field goal. Mensah was a perfect 20-for-20 passing in the first two quarters of play
In the second half, the Canes made it 31-7 at 9:56 of the third quarter. Mensah found wide receiver Malachi Toney in the back of the end zone on a two-yard touchdown toss.
The Demon Deacons answered back with 4:06 left in the third and cut it to 31-13. Lopez fired a 23-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jack Foley.
In the fourth quarter, Wake Forest closed it to 31-20 at the 14:56 mark. Wide receiver Carlos Hernandez made a 17-yard touchdown reception on the right side of the end zone from Lopez.
