FIU Joins Conference USA

    Florida International University announced on Friday that their institution would leave the Sunbelt Conference and join Conference USA starting in 2013-14. FIU has been in the Sunbelt Conference since 1998. Prior to that, they were in the Trans America Athletic Conference(TAAC) from 1990 to 1998. One of the reasons for the switch by FIU was that they are based at a major city in Miami while other Conference USA universities are also in large cities. Their former nearest conference rival, Florida Atlantic University, will remain in the Sunbelt Conference.
