The Fort Lauderdale Strikers began a three-game homestand and were able to shut out the Jacksonville Armada FC 2-0 on Wednesday night at Lockhart Stadium. The Strikers, who extended their undefeated streak to six games, are now in fourth place for the combined standings and the NASL fall season.
Things are looking up for Fort Lauderdale as they are one step away from capturing the Coastal Cup for the second consecutive season. They have l2 points with one game remaining while their closest state rival the Tampa Bay Rowdies has 9 points with one game left. The Strikers have a goal differential of +5 compared to the Rowdies who are at zero. Fort Lauderdale can wrap up the trophy on September 26 should Tampa Bay tie or loss to Jacksonville(3-8-2).
Strikers goalkeeper Josh Ford compiled his second straight shutout in net tonight and his third this season. Fort Lauderdale(5-2-5) got ahead in the l7th minute on a shot by midfielder Marlon Freitas and extended their lead to 2-0 during the 90th minute with a goal by midfielder James Marcelin.
