Miami Heat television play-by-play announcer Eric Reid has been named the winner of the National Sports Media Association Florida Sportscaster of the Year award. It is the first time that Reid had received this honor from that organization that was once known as the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.
Reid, an Ithaca College grad, has been with the Miami Heat organization since their inception into the NBA back in 1988. He was the game analyst alongside Sam Smith on the television and radio simulcast during the first three seasons of the Heat. Reid was elevated to the television play-by-play position in 1991 and has held that post since.
The NSMA also announced that Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald is the Florida Sportswriter of the Year. Jackson started as a sports media writer for the Miami Herald in the early 1990s. He has broadened his scope in the last couple of years working as the Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins beat writer.
