Miami Gets Major League Soccer Franchise

Major League Soccer officially gave a franchise to the city of Miami on Monday. The team is expected to play their first season in 2020 and move into a future soccer stadium in 2021.
It has been a long road for this to happen. Former soccer player David Beckham was granted permission to own and control a MLS franchise anywhere after he retired from playing with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
South Florida previously had a franchise in Major League Soccer. The Miami Fusion played at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale from 1998 until 2001 and was owned by Ken Horowitz.
