The Miami Marlins defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday. The Marlins, who completed a nine-game road trip with a 2-7 record, snapped a five-game losing streak.
Philadelphia(76-72) moved out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Cesar Hernandez homered to right-center field on the first pitch by Marlins starting pitcher Jose Urena.
Miami(58-91) controlled the middle innings and controlled the contest. Peter O'Brien smacked a two-run homer to left-center field on a 2-1 pitch in the top of the fourth with Starlin Castro scoring in front of him. The Fish made it 3-1 in the fifth inning when Bryan Holaday doubled to right field and brought home Austin Dean.
The Marlins extended their margin to 6-1 one inning later. O'Brien hit a sacrifice fly into center field to score Castro. Lewis Brinson followed with a triple to the center-field wall and Derek Dietrich crossed the plate. Brinson made it a five-run gap as he scored on a wild pitch.
