The Miami Heat got a Kelly Olynyk basket with 0:02.2 left to defeat the defending Southeast Division champion Washington Wizards 113-112 at Capital One Arena on Thursday night. The Heat played in a league-high 10 one-point games last season.
Washington(0-1) barely led 25-24 after one quarter and 59-58 at halftime. Miami(1-1) fell behind 89-85 after three quarters. The contest would get down to the last possession in the final quarter. Dwyane Wade fired a 16-foot shot from the left wing which hit the back of the rim and Olynyk followed with a shot inside the paint.
Josh Richardson had a team-high 28 points for the Heat and Rodney McGruder contributed a career-high 20 points along with eight rebounds. Derrick Jones Jr. also reached a career-high as he dropped in 17 points. Hassan Whiteside fell short of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds while Wade added nine points and eight rebounds. John Wall led the Wizards with 26 points and 10 assists.
