It is battle between two of the best large-size schools in Broward County as the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders take on the Deerfield Beach Bucks on Friday night at Butler Stadium. The Raiders look to go deep in Class 7A while the Bucks intend to go far in Class 8A for the upcoming FHSAA postseason.
St. Thomas Aquinas(4-1) won their first four games of the regular season. They fell to Miami Central in their last contest and then had the week off due to a bye. The Raiders have outscored their opponents 214-49 this year. They face their two district foes in the next three weeks.
The Raiders have a balanced offense with Curt Casteel at quarterback. Their rushing attempts will be split between running backs Daniel Carter and Nigel White. They have a slew of wide receivers with Marcus Rosemy, Jamal Cooney, Xavier Restrepo and Jahvante Royal to catch the ball from Casteel.
Deerfield Beach(6-0) is undefeated through six games this year, have outscored opponents 218-54 and allowed only nine points per game. They will face district opponents for their remaining three games of the regular season.
Running back Jaylan Knighton comes off a Bucks school record for most rushing yards in a game last week against Taravella and can score on any carry from the backfield. Wide receivers Deajaun McDougle, Dashaun Davis, Bryce Gowdy and DeRohn King will try to get open downfield for quarterback Tyler Herring.
