The University of Miami Hurricanes overcame a 20-point deficit to defeat the Florida State University Seminoles 28-27 on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. The Hurricanes stopped the Seminoles for the second straight year after losing the previous seven games between both schools.
FSU put up the only points during the first quarter. Quarterback Deondre Francois threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Keith Gavin at 9:59.
The Canes tied it up 7-7 at the 11:30 mark of the second quarter. Quarterback N'Kosi Perry tossed a 10-yard pass into the end zone to wide receiver Lawrence Cager.
Ricky Aguayo kicked a 42-yard field goal for Florida State(3-3, 1-3) with 4:26 left to regain the lead. Wide receiver Tamorrion Terry caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Francois with 1:38 remaining. Aguayo nailed a 53-yard field goal with six seconds remaining which gave them a 20-7 at halftime.
The Seminoles final score of the contest happened at 12:07 of the third quarter. D.J. Matthews sprinted into the end zone on a 74-yard punt return for a score.
Miami(5-1, 2-0) came back with 21 unanswered points for the rest of the second half. Cager made his second touchdown reception from Perry from three yards away at 4:59. They scored again just 42 seconds later as Perry connected a 17-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jeff Thomas.
The Hurricanes finally took the lead with 12:00 left in the fourth quarter. Perry fired a 41-yard strike to tight end Brevin Jordan for the go-ahead touchdown.
