The Marlins will host the defending World Series Champions the Houston Astros on Monday. The Yankees visit the Braves in Atlanta.
New York(60-58) moved out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Isaiah Kiner-Falefa singled to center field for Harrison Bader to score.
It became 2-0 for the Bronx Bombers in the top of the third. Former Marlins player Giancarlo Stanton doubled into the left-field corner and Aaron Judge crossed the plate.
Miami(62-57) closed it to 2-1 in the bottom of the third. Luis Arraez drove in Joey Wendle with a base hit into shallow left field.
The Yankees increased it to 4-1 in the fourth inning. Anthony Volpe bashed a two-run homer to left-center field on a 1-1 count with Billy McKinney aboard. It turned out to be Volpe's 16th home run of the season.
In the fifth inning, the Yanks scored two runs to made it 6-1. Gleyber Torres was able to score on a wild pitch. McKinney later grounded into a force out and Stanton reached home.
New York expanded it to a six-run gap in the top of the sixth. Ben Rortvedt got his first home run in a Yankees uniform on the first pitch to right field.
The Marlins picked up a run in the bottom of the sixth and trailed 7-2. Jake Burger singled through the right side and Josh Bell scored.
The Fish added one more run in the eighth inning and were down 7-3. Bryan De La Cruz doubled into left field for Bell to score.
Miami compiled five runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the game 8-7. Bell hit the ball to the mound, but Clay Holmes made an error on a throw to first. Yuli Gurriel and Nick Fortes scored on the play. Arraez followed with a triple down the right-field line for Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Bell to score. Two batters later, Burger knocked in Arraez with a single to left field and Arraez touched home for the winning run.
