Jason Jackson has been named the new radio play-by-play announcer for the Miami Heat. He will replace Mike Inglis who just retired from the post earlier this week after 23 seasons. Jackson will become the fifth English language radio voice of the club following Sam Smith, Eric Reid, Dave Halberstam and Inglis.
Jackson has been the television studio host and sideline reporter for the Heat franchise since the 2003-04 season. He specifically was the studio host for home games and sideline reporter for road games on television broadcasts since October 2012.
He did fill-in for Mike Inglis on a couple games he missed last season. Jackson has also filled in for television play-by-play announcer Eric Reid in one contest back in 2013 and 2019.
It has been a long road for Jackson in his broadcasting career. He once was a sports anchor and sports reporter for WSVN-TV Channel 7 in Miami from 1993 to 1995.
He landed at ESPN as a sports anchor and later became the afternoon host on ESPN Radio. After his time at ESPN ended in 2002, Jackson stayed in Connecticut as a afternoon host at WPOP-AM in Hartford.
Jackson returned to Miami market and became the television sideline reporter and studio host in 2003. He did have a stint as a weekend host at Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM.
He joined Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM as a morning co-host. Jackson was later shifted to host the early afternoon show and stayed there until August 2008. He returned to The Ticket as the early afternoon host from February 2012 until October 2012.
Jackson has remained on the radio airwaves in recent years. He joined SiriusXM Radio as a Sunday midday host on NBA Radio.
