The New York Mets knocked off the Miami Marlins 5-2 at Citi Field on Tuesday. It was the first contest of a doubleheader between both clubs. This particular game was postponed on September 1 and rescheduled for today.
New York(74-82) sprinted out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. After a leadoff triple down the right-field line into the corner by Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor drove him in on a base hit into center field.
It became 3-0 for the Mets during the bottom of the third. Jonathan Villar sliced a single into shallow right field and Michael Conforto crossed the plate. Kevin Pillar then reached base on an Eddy Alvarez fielding error at third for Javier Baez to score.
In the fourth inning, Miami(64-92) was able to bounce back. Lewin Diaz smashed a two-run homer to right field on a 2-2 count into the upper deck with Jesus Sanchez aboard.
The Mets put the game away in the bottom of the sixth. Lindor lifted a two-run home run to left field on the first pitch for his 19th homer of the season.
