The Miami Marlins played their last home game prior to the 2017 All-Star Game and lost to the New York Mets 6-3 at Marlins Park on Thursday night. The Fish, who went 5-5 on the home stand, leave town to visit Milwaukee, St. Louis and San Francisco prior to South Florida hosting the All-Star Game.
New York(36-42) sprinted out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Jay Bruce knocked in Curtis Granderson with a base hit into center field. T.J. Rivera followed with a RBI-double to right-center field which scored Bruce.
In the third inning, the Mets extended their margin with three runs in the frame. Bruce once again drove in Granderson with a double to left field. Yoenis Cespedes would score on a single to left field by Rivera. Former Marlin Jose Reyes capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to right that scored Bruce to make it 5-0.
Miami(35-42) cut into the lead during the fourth inning. Giancarlo Stanton smashed a solo homer to left field on a 1-0 pitch for his 21st home run of the season.
The Marlins compiled two runs in the bottom of the sixth and were behind 5-3. Stanton crossed the plate on a base hit by Martin Prado to left field. Justin Bour later scored from third on a wild pitch by Seth Lugo.
The Mets moved ahead 6-3 in the top of the seventh. Matt Reynolds scored on a Granderson ground out to short.
