Broward County public schools launch their 2020 seasons this week as the Deerfield Beach Bucks take on the Stranahan Dragons on Monday night. It was to be the first high school football game ever held at Inter Miami CF Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, however due to circumstances the contest was moved to Butler Field in Deerfield Beach.
High school football was once played at Lockhart Stadium where Inter Miami CF Stadium currently stands. Stranahan played their home games there until 2012 because their campus does not have a football field. The Dillard Panthers and the Blanche Ely Tigers participated in the annual Soul Bowl in that location until 2016.
Deerfield Beach(0-0) has reloaded even though they lost a ton of talent to graduation. They have lost two straight Class 8A state semifinal games to the Columbus Explorers. The Bucks have reached the state semifinals in three of the last four years. Primary targets on pass receptions are expected to be wide receivers Jamarion McDougle and Deion Small. Running back Jaziun Patterson will get the majority of carries from the backfield.
