The Miami Heat avoided elimination with a 111-108 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Friday night at AdventHealth Arena in Lake Buena Vista. Both clubs will meet each other on Sunday night for Game 6.
Miami had a slight 25-24 advantage at the end of one quarter. The Heat scored the first six points of the second quarter and they led 60-56 by halftime.
Los Angeles kept it close and trailed 88-82 after three quarters. The Heat had a 11-point lead early in the fourth quarter, however the Lakers went on an 17-3 run to go up 99-96 with 5:28 left. The Heat came back with five straight points to begin a 15-9 spurt. Jimmy Butler made two free throws with 16.8 seconds left and Miami led 109-108.
Butler compiled a tripled as he led Miami with 35 points, 11 assists and 12 rebounds. Duncan Robinson poured in 26 points while Kendrick Nunn added 14 points. Bam Adebayo got 13 points and Tyler Herro had 12 points.
James put together a double-double of 40 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists for Los Angeles. Anthony Davis also had a double-double with 28 points along with 12 rebounds. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was able to drop in 16 points.
