Padres Top Marlins

The San Diego Padres stopped the Miami Marlins 3-2 at loanDepot park on Thursday night. It was the first contest of a four-game series between both clubs. The Marlins had their first home game since before the All-Star Game break on July 11.
San Diego(57-42) got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Jurickson Profar grounded into a force play and American Heritage High School grad Eric Hosmer crossed the plate.
In the fourth inning, the Padres made it 2-0. Profar knocked in Tommy Pham with a base hit into center field.
It became 3-0 for the Friars in the top of the fifth. Brito Miami Private School grad Manny Machado hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Fernando Tatis Jr. reached home.
Miami(41-56) picked up two runs in the bottom of the seventh and trailed 3-2. Joe Panik sliced a single to shallow left field and Isan Diaz scored. Three batters later, Starling Marte walked with the bases loaded and pinch-runner John Curtiss came in to score.
