Marlins Finally Win, Take Cardinals

The Miami Marlins finally picked up their first victory of the 2024 season as they blitzed the St. Louis Cardinals 10-3 at Busch Stadium on Sunday. Marlins starting pitcher Max Meyer retired the first 13 Cardinals batters for his first career victory.
The Marlins, who snapped a nine-losing streak to begin the 2024 campaign, will face the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium beginning tomorrow. The Fish did set a Major League Baseball record for most consecutive losses to start a season following a postseason appearance.
Miami(1-9) piled on six runs during the top of the first. Jazz Chisholm Jr. powered a three-run homer to right-center field on the first pitch with Luis Arraez and Josh Bell aboard. It was the second home run for Chisholm this season.
The Marlins made it 6-0 later on in the frame. Four batters later, Nick Gordon lifted a three-run home run to right field on a 1-2 count for his second homer of the year. Tim Anderson and Bryan De La Cruz scored in front of him on the play.
In the second inning, the Fish increased it to 7-0. Bell grounded out to first for Arraez to cross the plate.
St. Louis(5-5) were able to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. Nolan Gorman collected his first home run in 2024 with a round-tripper to center field.
The Marlins extended it to 8-1 in the seventh inning. Jake Burger doubled into left field for Arraez to reach home.
Miami had a nine-run cushion during the top of the eighth. Bell grounded into a fielder's choice at third and Gordon scored. Burger followed with a sacrifice fly to left field for Chrisitan Bethancourt to score.
The Cardinals added two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Gorman ripped a two-run homer to center field with Michael Siani aboard for his second home run of the contest and the season.
