The New York Yankees hanged on to defeat the Miami Marlins 3-2 at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night. The Marlins will complete their six-game road trip tomorrow.
New York(10-2) moved out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Alex Verdugo powered a solo home run to right field on a 0-1 pitch for his second homer with his new club.
The Yankees made it 2-0 during the bottom of the fifth. Giancarlo Stanton doubled into the right-field corner which brought in Juan Soto.
In the sixth inning, the Bronx Bombers increased it to 3-0. Soto drove in former Marlin Jon Berti with a base hit to center field.
Miami(1-11) closed it up to 3-2 in the top of the seventh. Jesus Sanchez grounded out to first with the bases loaded for Josh Bell to score. Pinch-hitter Nick Gordon followed with a sacrifice fly to left field and Jazz Chisholm Jr. raced home.
