Marlins Fall To Reds

Less than 18 hours after they finished their first regular season game in Marlins Park in Miami, the Miami Marlins played an afternoon game in Cincinnati. The Reds shut down the Marlins 4-0 at Great American Ball Park. Mark Buehrle made his debut with Miami and came out sluggish in the first inning. After letting several Reds to get on base, Jay Bruce hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to center field to score Zack Cozart. Miami had a tough time at the plate for the second straight time. Johnny Cuerto gave up only one hit in the first five innings. The Marlins had a chance to tie the game in the sixth inning. Jose Reyes got a one-out single through the left side, then Emilio Bonifacio walked. Hanley Ramirez struck out swinging and Reyes was caught on the front end of a double steal 2-5-4 to end the frame. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Reds newcomer Ryan Ludwick drove a one-out double to deep center field and Scott Rolen scored from second base. Buehrle went six innings and gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out five batters. Cuerto left after seven innings surrendering no runs and three hits with four strikeouts. Cincinnati added two runs in the eighth inning off Edward Mujica. Jay Bruce hit a no-out home run on a 1-1 pitch to straight center field. Later, Chris Heisey smacked a two-out RBI double to deep center and Drew Stubbs scored. Cuerto took the win while Buerhle got the loss. Miami has only seven hits in their first two games this season. Both teams will have off on Friday. The three-game series will resume on Saturday. The Marlins have now won four of their last 19 games in Cincinnati.
