Phillies Slip By Marlins
The Miami Marlins finished off a six-game road trip on Thursday as they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 at Citizens Bank Park. Miami took one on three games against the Phillies this week. Philadelphia put up two runs in the fourth inning. Mark Buerhle gave up a lead-off solo home run to left field by Shane Victorino on an 0-2 pitch. Later in the frame, Jimmy Rollins was tagged at home on a double by Hunter Pence to deep left field. John Mayberry Jr. then hit a two-out RBI single into left field to score Pence for a 2-0 lead. Miami pulled off a two-out rally in the fifth inning. After Omar Infante doubled to left field, John Buck knocked him in with a single to right field off Joe Blanton. The Phillies extended their lead to 3-1 in the seventh inning as Ty Wigginton led off and homered to left on a 1-2 pitch. Buerhle left the game one batter later and ended up pitching 6 1/3 innings with three runs on eight hits. Blanton gave up one run on three hits in seven innings when he was pulled. Miami tried to rally in the ninth inning against Jonathan Papelbon. Logan Morrison singled to center field leading off. Gaby Sanchez then popped out to Carlos Ruiz behind the plate for one out. Infante singled to center and Morrison advanced to second. Buck ended any chances as he grounded into a 6-4-3 double play. The Marlins return to Miami on Friday to play their second regular season game at Marlins Park. They host the Houston Astros this weekend.
