Marlins Sweep Cubs

The Miami Marlins finished off their six-game homestand on Thursday with a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Marlins Park. They extended their winning streak to four. The Marlins swept the three-game series over the Cubbies and now have a winning record for the first time this season at 7-6. Miami got off to a great start in the first inning. Emilio Bonifacio scored from third on a one-out single by Logan Morrison. Giancarlo Stanton grounded out to shortstop and Hanley Ramirez scored for a Marlins 2-0 lead. Chicago responded in the second inning as Darwin Barney laced a three-run triple down the right field line with two outs to take the lead 3-2. Both teams had opportunities in the third inning. The Cubs left the bases loaded. Miami got a double to left field by Greg Dobbs with one out which scored Ramirez and Morrison. Ricky Nolasco helped his cause as he knocked in Dobbs with a two-out single and the Marlins retook the lead 5-3. Nolasco improved his record to 2-0 after he pitched five-plus innings. Heath Bell picked up his second save this season. The Cubs have now lost five straight games. The Marlins will play a three-game series against the Nationals in Washington D.C. this weekend.
