Damon Cogdell Leaves Miramar

Miramar head coach Damon Cogdell has left his position at that school and will join West Virginia University in a coaching capacity. He attended and played college football with the Mountaineers prior to high school football coaching.
Cogdell led the Patriots to seven consecutive FHSAA playoffs appearances. They won the Class 6A state championship in 2009 and lost the Class 8A state championship game in 2011. New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith, St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey, West Virginia wide receiver Ivan McCartney, University of Miami quarterback Ryan Williams and defensive back Tracy Howard played under Cogdell at Miramar.
The Patriots showed their dominance throughout Broward County in the last three years. They defeated St. Thomas Aquinas three straight times which included twice at Brian Piccolo Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Miramar completed an undefeated regular season in 2013, won their first two playoff games and were upset on the road at Palm Beach Gardens in the regional final.
