Jose Fernandez pitched eight shutout innings, allowed three hits and struck out 12 batters as the Miami Marlins blanked the Washington Nationals 1-0 at Marlins Park on Tuesday night. Fernandez improved his career home record to 29-2.
The only run in the contest was scored by Miami(76-75) during the sixth inning. Washington(88-63) starting pitcher Tanner Roark gave up a solo homer to Giancarlo Stanton. It was the 27th home run this season for Stanton.
