The ratings for sports talk radio stations in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale market were issued. It was a tie between two Entercom Communications stations and the closest race among the top three local competitors in over five years.
Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM fell from a 0.9 to a 0.6 in January. It was their lowest ratings for them since the holiday season in December 2012. The drop in audience was due to no more Miami Dolphins and University of Miami Hurricanes football game broadcasts. It was the first complete period with Alex Donno and Josh Friedman as their new midday show.
Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM stayed at a 0.6 during the period. The Miami Heat were in a playoff position in the Eastern Conference. They have been using different hosts in their evening program that includes Greg Likens and Zack Duarte.
Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM remained at a 0.2 for the month. It is the closest they have been to the market leader since August 2013. They added The Greek to host a mid-afternoon show midway through the period. WINZ has been at a 0.2 in five of the last six months.
640 The Hurricane WMEN-AM dropped off the radar in the market from a 0.1 to a 0.0 in January. They have appeared in the Miami ratings since August, even though their operations are based in Palm Beach County. The station has depended on afternoon host Andy Slater along with Florida Panthers hockey broadcasts.
