The Miami Marlins began a three-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks and lost 3-1 on Monday night at Chase Field. The Fish fell for the fourth straight game since the All-Star Game break. The Diamondbacks snapped a six-game losing streak.
Arizona(43-48) picked up two runs in the third inning off Marlins starting pitcher David Phelps. Nick Ahmed led off with a triple to deep right-center field. Later in the frame, A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt both walked with two outs to load the bases. David Peralta knocked in Ahmed and Pollock with a base hit into left-center field.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Diamondbacks extended their lead to 3-0 with a one-out rally. Jake Lamb singled to center field, Chris Owings reached base on a bunt and Ahmed walked. Rubby De La Rosa drove Lamb in on a fielder's choice.
Miami(38-55) closed the gap to 3-1 during the seventh inning. Derek Dietrich smashed a lead-off home run to right field on a 1-1 pitch for his fourth homer of the season. The Marlins would leave the bases loaded in the top of the eighth.
