The Cincinnati Reds avoided a four-game sweep with a 6-4 victory over the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park on Sunday. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Fish.
Cincinnati(42-63) compiled two runs in the second inning. Tucker Barnhart knocked in Eugenio Suarez with a single to center. Jose Peraza later scored on an infield hit by Luis Castillo to make it 2-0.
Miami(49-54) broke the shutout during the bottom of the sixth. A.J. Ellis singled to left field for Dee Gordon to score.
The Reds extended their margin with four runs in the top of the seventh. They had the bases loaded when Adam Duvall grounded into a fielder's choice toward short for Billy Hamilton to cross the plate. The bases were loaded again, Peraza walked and Scooter Gennett scored. Barnhart then drove in Duvall and Suarez with a single up the middle for a 6-1 lead.
The Marlins made an attempt for a comeback in the ninth inning. Marcell Ozuna blasted a three-run homer to left field on a 1-1 count with Gordon and Ellis aboard.
