Miami Heat Radio Rights Move To WQAM

AM 560 Sports WQAM-AM was named the new English language flagship station of the Miami Heat. The Heat radio rights move over from Audacy sister-station Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM.
WQAM had Miami Heat radio broadcasts during the first five seasons of the NBA franchise from 11988-89 until 1992-93. The Heat landed on 940 WINZ-AM from 1993-94 to 1995-96. The radio rights moved to sister-station WIOD-AM for the 1996-97 season.
Miami Heat radio broadcasts shifted from WIOD to 790 The Ticket after a couple of games into the 20110-11 regular season. The Miami Heat did not like that their game broadcasts were not given priority on that radio station and bumped for newly acquired Miami Dolphins radio broadcasts by WIOD.
There are now numerous local sports properties on WQAM as their flagship station. They include the Miami Dolphins along with University of Miami Hurricanes football and men's basketball.
