Marlins Prevent Sweep By Phillies

The Miami Marlins beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 on Thursday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins were able to avoid a three-game sweep by the Phillies. The Fish ended up going 3-5 on their eight-game homestand.
Miami(59-85) will travel to Washington D.C. and face the Nationals this weekend. Philadelphia(80-52), who had a chance to clinch a non-losing season, head for Atlanta to battle it out with the Braves.
Jordan Groshans hit his first home run in the majors during the bottom of the third down the left-field line on a 3-1 pitch for a 1-0 lead. Bryan De La Cruz powered a three-run homer to left-center field on a full count in the fourth inning to give the Marlins a four-run margin.
The Phillies tried to chip at the lead later in the contest. Kyle Schwarber blasted a solo home run to right-center field on a 1-1 pitch in the top of the sixth. He extended his lead in the National League with his 38th homer of the season.
