The National League defeated the American League 3-2 for their first victory since 2012. The American League had their nine-game winning streak snapped by the National League.
Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez started for the National League. He entered the MLB All-Star Game with the highest batting average, which was .383, since 2000.
Arraez ended up going 2-for-2 with a single to center field in the second inning. He later drove in J.D. Martinez during the top of the fourth on a base hit through the right side for the National League's first run.
He became the fourth player in Marlins franchise history to have a multi-hit game in an MLB All-Star Game. The others are Gary Sheffield in 1993, Mike Lowell in 2002 and Hanley Ramirez in 2008.
Marlins outfielder Jorge Soler entered into the contest in the sixth inning as a designated hitter. He reached base in his only at-bat on a throwing error.
