Cardinals Hold Off Marlins

The St. Louis Cardinals got by the Miami Marlins 5-2 in 10 innings on Tuesday night at Busch Stadium. The Cards continued to roll with their seventh victory in the last nine games. The Marlins have fallen in five consecutive contests.
The Fish dropped from second place to third place in the National League East Division. They are now a 1/2 game behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the standings. It is the first time since May 27 that the Marlins were not in a wild-card spot.
Miami(53-44) had a 1-0 lead during the fifth inning. Luis Arraez hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Jon Berti scored.
St. Louis(42-53) tied it in the sixth inning. Brendan Donovan belted a solo home run to right field on a 2-1 pitch for his 11th homer of the year.
The Marlins got the lead again 2-1 in the top of the seventh. Jorge Soler knocked in Berti with a base hit into center field.
The Cardinals made it 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh. Nolan Gorman doubled off the right-center field fence and Dylan Carlson crossed the plate.
The Redbirds finished the game in the 10th inning. Nolan Arenado smashed a three-run homer to left field on a 0-1 count with Paul De Jong and Lars Nootbaar aboard. It ended up being the 24th home run for Arenado this season.
