The #1 Palm Beach Central Broncos were stunned by the Vero Beach Indians 21-20 at Broncos Stadium in a FHSAA Class 7A regional semifinal on Friday night in Palm Beach County. It surprisingly turned to be a low-scoring contest in the first half.
Vero Beach(8-3) made it 7-0 with under one minute remaining in the second quarter on a touchdown pass. Palm Beach Central(10-2) pulled it to 7-6 on a touchdown run just two minutes into the third quarter. They unfortunately missed on the extra point.
After a scoreless third quarter, both high schools combined for 21 points in the final four minutes of the game. The Broncos took their first lead 13-7 on a running touchdown with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Indians answered back and reclaimed the lead 14-13 with four minutes to go. Palm Beach Central responded with a touchdown with under two minutes remaining in the fourth for a 20-14 lead. Vero Beach reached the end zone during the final seconds of the contest for a 21-20 advantage.
