Marlins Sink Rays

The Miami Marlins beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins won their first series since they took two of three games from the Cincinnati Reds in late April.
Tampa Bay(21-25) scored first in the top of the third for a 1-0 lead. Yandy Diaz hit into a fielder's choice and Taylor Walls crossed the plate.
Marlins starting pitcher Paul Quantrill threw an immaculate inning of nine strikes against the Rays during the top of the fourth. It was the 118th immaculate innings pitched in MLB history. Former left-handed Jesus Sanchez was the only player in Marlins history to accomplish it on September 13, 1998 versus the Atlanta Braves.
Miami(18-27) leaped to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Otto Lopez pounded a three-run homer to left-center field on a 1-1 count with Matt Mervis and Eric Wagaman aboard. It was third home run for Lopez this year.
The Marlins added two more runs in the sixth inning for a 5-1 advantage. Liam Hicks powered a two-run home run to right field on the first pitch for his fourth homer of the 2025 campaign. Wagaman scored in front of him on the play.
