The National Football League has suspended former local high school player and current Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley for gambling. He will not play in the 2022 NFL season.
The NFL has ended up suspending other players in the past for one year due to gambling. They included Green Bay Packers Paul Hornung and Detroit Lions defensive lineman Alex Karras in 1963. Both of them later became members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Ridley participated with the Monarch Knights while in high school until 2014. He later spent time with the University of Alabama Crimson Tide. Ridley won the CFP National Championship in 2015 and 2017.
