DeBoer got his first NHL head coaching opportunity with the Florida Panthers. He spent three seasons with the club from 2008-09 to 2010-11 and had a 103-107-36 record.
He joined the New Jersey Devils from 2011-12 until 2014-15. The Devils won the Eastern Conference title during his first season there.
DeBoer moved on to the San Jose Sharks and stayed there for five seasons from 2015-16 to 2020-21. He guided the Sharks to a Western Conference title in his first season.
After being fired mid-season by the club, he was quickly hired by the Vegas Golden Knights in 2020-21. He has helped them reach the Stanley Cup Semifinals in the last two years.
