Jorge Soler belted two home runs as the Miami Marlins downed the Minnesota Twins 5-2 on Wednesday at loanDepot park. The Marlins finished their opening homestand with a 3-4 record. The Twins have lost two in-a-row after winning their first four games of the regular season.
Miami(3-4) raced out to a 1-0 lead during the first inning. Soler smashed a solo home run to left-center field on a 2-2 pitch for his second homer of the season.
Minnesota(4-2) matched it in the top of the seventh and made it 1-1. Trevor Larnach singled through the left side and Ryan Jeffers crossed the plate.
The Marlins piled on four more runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 5-1 lead. Bryan De La Cruz drove in Jean Segura on a base hit into center field. Soler came up next and blasted a three-run homer to left field on a 1-0 count. Jon Berti and De La Cruz scored in front of him on the play.
The Twins picked up one run in the ninth inning. Kyle Farmer scored from third on a wild pitch by Miami relief pitcher A.J. Puk.
