In the first inning, the Mets were able to load the bases. Jeff McNeil ended up walking and Brandon Nimmo reached home.
New York(5-4) made it 3-0 in the fifth inning. Pete Alonso smashed a two-run homer to left-center field on a full count with Francisco Lindor aboard. It was Alonso's fourth home run in his lastt three games. He is now tied for the most home runs in the National League this year.
Miami(3-6) got a run in the top of the sixth. Jazz Chisholm Jr. lifted a solo homer to right field on a 1-1 pitch for his second home run this year and the Marlins were down 3-1.
The Mets responded in the bottom of the frame and increased their lead to 5-1. Eduardo Escobar sliced a two-run homer to left field on a 2-1 count. McNeil scored in front of him on the play.
The Marlins cut it to 5-2 when they had the basses loaded in the top of the seventh. Luis Arraez singled to right field and Bryan De La Cruz crossed the plate.
