The #5 University of Miami Hurricanes were defeated by the #4 University of Connecticut Huskies 72-59 in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament national semifinal game on Saturday night at NRG Stadium in Houston. Miami made their first Final Four appearance in school history after falling short by one game last season.
South Florida had two local colleges appear in the Final Four this weekend. Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton lost earlier in the first national semifinal contest while the Miami Hurricanes fell in the second semifinal game.
Connecticut broke out to a 14-4 lead seven minutes into the first half. The Huskies continued to stay ahead 27-19 with 4:45 to go in the half. The Hurricanes were still behind by double digits 37-24 at halftime.
UConn increased their lead to a 20-point gap 46-26 with 16:36 left in the second half. Miami had a 19-7 run and trailed 53-45 with 11:41 remaining. The Canes could not cut the deficit down from 10 points for the rest of the game.
