New York(4-4), who entered the contest on a three-game losing streak, loaded the bases during the bottom of the third. Mark Canha walked with two outs for Brandon Nimmo to cross the plate. After a pitching change, Daniel Vogelbach got an infield hit to second and Starling Marte scored to make it 2-0.
The Mets added to their lead in the fourth with the bases loaded go up 3-0. Pete Alonso knocked in Tomas Nido with a single through the left side.
Miami(3-5) surrendered another run in the bottom of the sixth and trailed 4-0. Marte lifted a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-0 pitch for his first homer this season.
It became 6-0 for New York in the seventh inning. Eduardo Escobar grounded into a force out at second for Jeff McNeil to score. Nido came up next and hit a sacrifice fly to left-center field which brought in Canha.
The Marlins cut into the deficit and scored three runs in the top of the eighth with two outs. Garrett Cooper powered a three-run homer to center field on a 3-2 count. Luis Arraez and Jorge Soler scored in front of him on the play. It was the second home run of the year for Cooper.
The Mets piled on three more runs in the bottom of the eighth with back-to-back home runs for a 9-3 lead. Francisco Lindor smacked a two-run homer to left field on a 2-2 count with Nimmo aboard. Alonso followed with a solo shot to center field on a 0-2 pitch for his fourth home run this season. It was the 150th career home run for Alonso.
