Former Aquinas Players Win National Title
Alabama defeated LSU 21-0 Monday night for the BCS Championship at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Several players from the Crimson Tide have roots playing high school football in South Florida. They included wide receivers Duron Carter and Nick Williams who once played at St. Thomas Aquinas. Both won Class 5A state titles with the Raiders in 2007 and 2008. Ed Stinson, who played at South Dade, also played for Alabama as a defensive tackle. The most recognizable player in the game played for LSU. Karnell Hatcher was the starting middle linebacker for the Tigers. He was shifted during the off-season by head coach Les Miles from the safety position which he occupied for the past three seasons to the linebacker spot. Hatcher was a four-year starter as a free safety at Atlantic High School in Delray Beach.
