The Florida Panthers finished a three-game road trip as they got by the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1 at Air Canada Centre on Thursday night. The Panthers have won four of their last five games and now lead the Atlantic Division over the Boston Bruins by three points.
Florida had to wait until 24 seconds into the second period on the power play to break the tie. Jussi Jokinen fired a shot from the top left circle which went of a Toronto defender and by Jonathan Bernier for an unassisted goal. Jokinen would collect another unassisted goal at 9:22 to make it 2-0.
The Maple Leafs closed the gap with 3:27 left in the second. Morgan Rielly ripped a wrist shot past Roberto Luongo on a feed by Michael Grabner.
The Panthers scored twice into an empty net late in the third period to put the contest away. Jaromir Jagr got his 24th goal of the season and his 746th career tally with 2:06 remaining. Teddy Purcell followed with his first goal as a Florida Panther with 23 seconds to go.
