South Florida native and offensive lineman Sam Young has signed a one-year contract to join the Miami Dolphins. Young had been with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the last three seasons and the Buffalo Bills previous to that. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2010 NFL Draft and played his rookie year there.
Young first got noticed locally when he played for the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders as a guard for four years. He helped the school become FHSAA Class 7A state finalists three consecutive times from 2004 to 2006. The Raiders lost the title game each time to the Lakeland Dreadnaughts. Young moved on to play college football with Notre Dame for four years.
