Panthers Sweep Jets

The Florida Panthers went up to Canada and defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Tuesday night at MTS Centre. Jiri Hudler and Teddy Purcell make their debut with their new club following being acquired by Florida on Saturday. The Cats improved to 29-4-6 when they scored first in a game.
The Panthers were unable to get a shot on goal until eight minutes in. They did pick up the first goal of the contest with 6:12 left in the opening period. Vincent Trocheck was on the left wing and placed a shot which was redirected in by Reilly Smith.
Winnipeg got back in the game when they tied it 1-1 at 5:25 of the second period. A backhand by Nikolaj Ehlers from the right side of the crease was stopped by Roberto Luongo, however Dustin Byfuglien flipped in a backhand shot from the top crease.
The Jets pulled out to their first lead several minutes later at 7:58. Alexander Burmistrov was at red line and sent a lead pass to Andrew Copp at the Florida blue line. He skated in on goal and scored on a wrist shot.
In the third period, Smith set a career-high with his 21st goal of the season on the power play at 1:46 to tie it 2-2. He had scored 20 goals with the Boston Bruins back in 2013-14.
Jaromir Jagr compiled his 743rd career goal and his 1,848th career point as Florida regained the lead 3-2 at 3:31. He is now two points behind Gordie Howe for 3rd place all-time in NHL points. Jagr skated to the high slot and released a wrist shot for his 21st goal this season.
