The Miami Marlins finished off their seven-game homestand with a 5-1 victory over the Washington Nationals 5-1 on Thursday at Marlins Park. The Fish ended with a 2-5 record and now head to California with stops in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
It took a short time for Washington(11-4) to score as they got the lead just three batters in during the first inning. Bryce Harper hit a solo home run on the first pitch to center field against Tom Koehler for his eighth homer this season.
Miami(5-9) answered with three runs during the bottom of the first to pull ahead. After a lead-off base hit by Ichiro Suzuki, Christian Yelich doubled to left field with one out. Marcell Ozuna followed with a three-run homer off Max Scherzer to left field on a 1-1 pitch for his second home run this year.
Martin Prado added to the margin in the second inning with an RBI-single to left that scored Jeff Mathis. Justin Bour blasted a double to right-center field in the fifth inning which brought in Ichiro to make it 5-0.
