The Miami Marlins were shut out by the Washington Nationals 7-0 on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. The Fish, who were held to five hits in the contest, have lost four of their last five games during their current seven-game homestand.
Miami(4-8) gave up four home runs in an inning for the first time in franchise history. Washington(10-3), who have been victorious in eight of their last ten games, put up seven runs during the seventh inning.
After Daniel Murphy flew out into center to begin the top of the seventh against Adam Conley, Jayson Werth smacked his 200th career homer over the left-center field fence on a 3-2 pitch. Wilson Ramos followed and hit a solo homer over the left-center field wall on the first pitch for a 2-0 lead. Danny Espinosa flew out to foul territory in right field for the second out.
Things would get worse for Miami later in the frame. Stephen Strasburg singled to center field. Michael A. Taylor doubled into left field and Anthony Rendon walked to load the bases. Chris Narveson entered the game in relief for the Marlins. Bryce Harper smashed a 2-1 pitch over the right-center field wall for a grand slam homer. It was his second grand slam of the season which increased the Nats margin to 6-0. Ryan Zimmerman collected his first home run of the year as he blasted a solo home run to right-center field to complete a seven-run inning.
