Marlins Edge Cubs In 17 Innings

The Miami Marlins managed to top the Chicago Cubs 2-1 in 17 innings on Friday night at Marlins Park. It was the second game of a six-game home stand for the Fish.
In the third inning, Kris Bryant lifted a solo home run to left field on a 1-2 pitch with one out to give Chicago(1-1) a 1-0 lead. It was the first homer of the season for the 2016 National League Most Valuable Player.
Miami(1-1) would tie the contest in the bottom of the frame. Lewis Brinson singled through the right side of the infield for his first base hit as a Marlin. Two batters later, former Cub Starlin Castro knocked in Brinson with a base hit into left field.
There was no scoring by either club until the bottom of the 17th inning. Brian Andreson singled to left with two outs and Cameron Maybin followed with a base hit deep in the hole on the left side. Miguel Rojas then lined a single into center field for Anderson to score from second and gave the Marlins a 3-2 victory.
