Panthers Blank Habs Again

The Florida Panthers began a three-game road trip as they shut out the Montreal Canadiens 2-0 at Bell Centre on Monday night. The Cats blanked the Canadiens for the third consecutive time this season. Roberto Luongo went into his hometown and picked up his 76th career shutout which ties Tony Esposito and former Panthers goalie Ed Belfour for ninth all-time.
The Panthers play seven of their next eight games on the road. Panthers captain Derek MacKenzie played in his 600th NHL game.
Florida(36-27-7) got out to a 1-0 lead with 1:29 remaining in the first period. Aaron Ekblad was able to get an unassisted goal for his 15th tally of the year. The Canadiens had a Jacob De La Rose goal reversed just 17 seconds later.
There was no scoring until the third period. The Panthers extended their lead to 2-0 at the 6:23 mark. An intended centering pass by Aleksander Barkov from the left circle deflected off the stick of Montreal(26-35-12) forward Logan Shaw and past Antti Niemi for his 26th goal of the season. Mark Pysyk and Nick Bjugstad were credited with assists on the play.
