Panthers Power By Stars

The Florida Panthers outscored the Dallas Stars 5-4 in overtime on Monday night at BB&T Center. It was the Panthers first home game since they clinched their second consecutive postseason berth and seventh trip in franchise history to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Florida(35-14-5) quickly got on the scoreboard at 1:53 of the first period. Keith Yandle made a right outlet pass from his own zone. Owen Tippett carried the puck into the Stars zone to the top right circle. He angled a pass to the inner left circle and Jonathan Huberdeau switched to a backhand shot in the low slot past Anton Khudobin for his 19th goal of the season. Huberdeau has three goals in the last four games.
It became 2-0 for the Panthers at the 2:42 mark. Brandon Montour ripped a slap shot from the right point which was stopped. Nikita Gusev put in a forehand shot from close range for his fourth goal of the campaign. Gusev was able to score in his second straight contest.
Dallas(21-17-14) cut the deficit to 2-1 with 7:56 left in the first on a power-play goal. Jason Robertson pushed the puck forward from the left point to Roope Hintz on the left wing. Hintz placed a pass to Joe Pavelski on the left side of the crease and he put in a snap shot by Spencer Knight for his 22nd goal this season.
The Cats recaptured a two-goal lead with 5:47 to go in the frame. Gregori Denisenko made pass in the neutral zone and Tippett dropped a pass inside the Dallas blue line. MacKenzie Weegar skated to the high slot and snapped a shot for his fifth goal of the year. Denisenko extended his point streak up to three games.
The Stars were given a gift of a goal with 2:44 remaining and they trailed 3-2. Weegar attempted to clear the puck around the cage from the goal and it slid into the Panthers net. Robertson was credited for the goal because he last touched the puck in the left corner.
In the second period, the Panthers expanded their lead to 4-2 just 45 seconds in. Aleksander Barkov touched the puck and Denisenko connected a pass from the left corner. Gustav Forsling blasted a one-time slap shot from above the right circle. Khudobin was replaced in net for Dallas by Jake Oettinger.
Dallas scored twice in an 11-second span early in the third period to tie the game 4-4. Joel Kiviranta  scored on a shot from the slot area at the 3:55 mark of the third period. Tyler Seguin, who was playing in his first contest this season, scored his first goal from the crease area at 4:06.
In overtime, Florida won the game on a power-play goal with 2:10 left. Weegar moved the puck from the left circle. Yandle angled a pass from the high slot to his right and Barkov one-timed a slap shot from the right circle by Oettinger for his 26th goal this season.
