Red Sox Inch By Marlins

The Boston Red Sox outdueled the Miami Marlins 5-2 in a shortened six-inning contest at Fenway Park on Friday night. The game was stopped during the sixth due to inclement weather and never restarted. It was the beginning of the Marlins nine-game road swing.
Miami(24-27) struck with two runs in the top of the second. Jorge Alfaro compiled his first home run of the season on a 2-1 pitch to right-center field. Corey Dickerson scored in front of him on the play.
In the third inning, the Red Sox tied it up 2-2. J.D. Martinez drove in Hunter Renfroe and Enrique Hernanadez on a double to deep center.
Boston(31-20) added three more runs during the fifth inning. Alex Verdugo smashed a three-run homer to right-center field on the first pitch with Marwin Gonzalez and Renfroe aboard. It was the seventh home run for Verdugo in the 2021 campaign.
