It was a decent year for South Florida professional sports teams in 2022. Four local sports clubs made the postseason. Just two of the five local teams reached the postseason in 2021.
The Florida Panthers finished first in the National Hockey League standings and captured the Presidents' Trophy for the first time in franchise history with 122 points. They also won the Atlantic Division title. The Panthers were swept 4-0 in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals by the defending Stanley Cup Champions the Tampa Bay Lightning in a shocking result.
The Miami Heat ended up first in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association and won the Southeast Division with a 53-29 record. They were able to defeat the Atlanta Hawks 4-1 in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals and the Philadelphia 76ers 4-2 in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The Heat lost in a seven-game series to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Miami Dolphins got the final AFC wild-card playoff spot with a 9-8 record. The Dolphins were eliminated in the first round by the Buffalo Bills.
The Miami Marlins did not do well during the 2022 season with a 67-95 record. They finished in fourth place among teams in the National League East Division.
Inter Miami CF reached the Major League Soccer postseason as the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. It was the second time in their three-year franchise history to get into the MLS Playoffs. They fell to the defending MLS Champions New York City FC 3-0 in the first round.
