It was the return of one of the biggest rivalries in Dade County high school football on Friday night. The Miami Central Rockets defeated the Miami Northwestern Bulls 52-10 at Traz Powell Stadium. Both teams have won numerous FHSAA state championships over the past 20 years.
Miami Central(4-1) piled on 21 points in the opening quarter and were ahead 21-0. Miami Northwestern(4-2) found the end zone early in the second quarter to make it 21-7. The Rockets got a field goal before the conclusion of the second and made it 24-7.
The Bulls picked up a field goal on their first possession of the second half and trailed 24-10. Miami Central answered back on their first drive with a touchdown and led 31-10. They added another touchdown late in the third quarter for a 37-10 advantage. The Rockets increased their lead to 44-10 five minutes into the final quarter.
